Interfaith Council for Homeless Families of Morris County

The Interfaith Council for Homeless Families of Morris County is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ending the crisis of homelessness through direct service, community awareness and participation, the advocacy of responsible solutions and facilitating the transition to permanent housing.

Participating congregations provide shelter, meals and other in-kind support to the families. Host congregations use their facilities to shelter the families. Support congregations provide meals and offer fellowship to the families. Long Hill Chapel is a support congregation for families hosted by Stanley Congregational Church in Chatham.

Long Hill Chapel is responsible to provide volunteers to serve
for 2 or 2 1/2 hour shifts on the following dates in 2011:

Monday, November 14 – 5 pm through overnight.

Saturday, November 19 – 7 am through overnight.

Women meet together on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month to knit & crochet simple projects for hospitals and pregnancy centers.

They welcome new project ideas and suggestions and anyone who crochets, knits and who can join them in this time of fellowship together.

This summer, teams from Long Hill Chapel traveled to Ensenada, where they partnered with the C&MA’s Ensenada Project.

We would love for you to join us next year, and can assure you that it will be a blessing both to the people we work with, and to you!

Purpose:

to build homes for families who need them
to partner with missionaries we support
to support Mexican C&MA church plants
to grow spiritually as individuals and as a community
to become better prepared for ministry and mission
to embody and share the gospel through action
to respond to the call of God to love our neighbors

Who:

anyone completing grade 5 or older (persons under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or designated adult guardian)

Cost:

$1200 per person (includes all trip costs, except 3 meals en route)
After paying the initial $200 non-refundable deposit, team members have the opportunity to fundraise the balance through designated team fundraisers, as well as, by sending individual letters to family and friends. Any balance not fundraised, must be paid in full.

Transportation:

Air to and from San Diego, California
12 passenger van to and from San Diego airport and while in Mexico

Lodging:

Alliance Mission Center in Ensendada, Mexico

We want to give you the opportunity to become more personally connected to our missionaries around the US and the world.

What kind of commitment are you signing up for?

We will do our best in paring you to a family with a similar dynamic as yours (i.e. single, couple with children, or empty nesters) or, according to your interests.

We would like for you, at the very least, to commit to writing this individual, family or couple, once a month, whether through e-mail or snail mail. Get your whole family involved! Become active prayer partners.

There is no financial obligation. Any gestures beyond correspondence and prayer, such as care packages or extra financial blessings are up to you and will not be automatically expected.

We ask that you commit to investing in this individual, family or couple for the minimum of one year. We will check in with you from time to time to see how its going.

Cross the borders of your day to day life and walk along the journey of your brothers and sisters in other parts of the world. God will grow bigger in your heart, and your own faith will be stretched.

We promise, the blessing will go both ways.

Stamp Ministry

The Alliance Stamp Ministry welcomes your contribution of used postage stamps, which they process and sell, donating all proceeds to missionary work in Central and South America. Since its inception, more than a half million dollars have been raised.

Thank you for the stamps you save for this ministry. The income generated from this ministry goes to support the preparation, publishing and distribution of a new Spanish language curriculum for Sunday School classes in Latin America. More than 50 lesson series have been published and are being used in churches of 40 different denominations and missions in 19 Latin American countries.

Stamps may be dropped off, unsorted and untrimmed, in the collection boxes located in the church office, library and Welcome Center.

Market Street Mission’s Coat Giveaway

At this year’s Annual Coat Giveaway Market Street Mission has been blessed by so many generous hearts who gave coats to so many thankful hearts who received them.

Because of the generosity of so many individuals, schools, churches and organizations who participated in this year’s Annual Coat Giveaway which was held Saturday, November 6, 2010 on the Morristown Green, we were able to give away coats to over 320 people.

The air was crisp, the sun was shining and the need was great but God has allowed all of us to take part in His generous love. It was a blessing to see so many lives being touched and taken care of as each individual looked for coats, not only for themselves but for their family members and friends. In total 3500 coats were given out to the needy and any coats remaining will be handed out at our Jersey Shore Rescue Mission on November 20, 2010.

All of us here at Market Street Mission would like to thank all who contributed coats, volunteered, prayed and encouraged us to make this year’s event so successful. We truly could not have served so many people in need without your help.

Please know your generosity has made a world of difference to hundreds of individuals and their families. We are very grateful for your support and appreciate all your help in making this event a wonderful success.

What could be better?

There are currently opportunities to serve during the 9:00 and 10:30 am service hours each week. There are openings to work with children in the following ministry age groups: Nursery, Preschool, Elementary and Special Needs.
